The Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Phoenixville Jaycees, is hosting a Young Professional Networking Group (YPNG) Event at Fitzwater Station in Phoenixville on Tuesday, July 30, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This event is part of an ongoing series created by the Chamber and the Jaycees that allows people aged 21 to 40 to gather in a relaxed atmosphere with other like-minded individuals who are interested in expanding their professional networks.

Donald Hughes, Member Services Coordinator with the Phoenixville Chamber of Commerce, said the purpose of the YPNG is to give those who are new to professional networking the opportunity to experience its best practices in a manner that is easily approachable. The event is for those established in business, starting a new business, as well as those looking for a job, volunteer opportunity or internship.

“We want to provide business professionals with a platform for growth,” Hughes said. “It can be intimidating to be among a group of 60-200 professionals when you are networking for the first time, but (the YPNG) is non-threatening way to get involved and give you the experience of talking in a professional but low-key setting.”

YPNG events take place at different locations, and are typically held once every six weeks. The Fitzwater Station event will have complimentary snacks and cash bar. Business casual dress recommended and attendees are encouraged to bring plenty of business cards.

“The beauty of networking (is that) it is not all about what you gain, it is also about what you can give back,” Hughes said. “There is a give and take balance to it… …people expect to hear about you and to have you listen to them as well. Our hopes are to provide an outlet for young professionals to learn about networking and volunteerism for the betterment of the community.”

Relationships fostered though efforts such as the YPNG are not unlike the partnership between the Chamber and the Jaycees that led to the formation of the YPNG last summer – at the core is the belief that great benefits result from sharing resources as a collaborative network.

“Both of our organizations are about community, business and professional growth,” Hughes said of the Chamber and Jaycees. “Ultimately it is about the commonality of the community. The Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees are separate organizations, but we have combined our efforts because we are moving in the same direction.”

Those interested in attending the event are encouraged to RSVP by visiting the Chamber of Commerce online at www.phoenixvillechamber.org
