Phoenixville senior center fielder Meghan Loughery was named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches all-state squad as a second team player in Class AAA.
Loughery will be continuing her career at Philadelphia University. A four-year starter for coach Joe Bogus’ Phantoms, Loughery played the outfield and second base during her freshman year, third base in her soph and junior year and center field as a senior.
A first team all-league and all-area selection, Loughery batted .421 and led the team with 24 hits and also had 13 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. Her on-base percentage was .439. Defensively, her fielding percentage was .900.
“She was a team captain during her junior and senior year,” said Bogus. “She was one of those kind of kids you like to have. She was a quiet leader by example on the field and respected by her teammates. She always came ready to play and she will be difficult to replace.”
Spring-Ford junior shortstop Gabby Tareilla was named Class AAAA honorable mention.
Owen J. Roberts senior center fielder Sarah Dowd was named to the Class AAAA first team. Dowd batted .563 with 25 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. She is headed to Youngstown State for her collegiate career.
The Wildcats’ Sam Garritano and Shannon Clemens were selected for the second team while Methacton’s Katie Civitello and Amanda Kulp and Daniel Boone’s Bekah Slattery made honorable mention.
Pottsgrove’s Lexi Kehl made honorable mention in Class AAA.
