Athletics stop Express, 14-8

Visiting Phoenixville defeated Westtown, 14-8, in Chester County League North Division action Tuesday night.

The Athletics improved their record to 5-4 while the Express dropped to 3-5.

Dave Palmen pitched four strong innings in relief of Mike Anthony for the victory as Phoenixville overcame some early mistakes, according to manager Joe Little.

A’s catcher Chris Demey threw out three runners on the basepaths, and third baseman Cole Luzins also made some solid defensive plays.


Joe Little and Jordan Valenteen led the offense with three hits apiece. Zach Gallow made his first start at first base and also came through with three hits. Tom Kawchak provided a key pinch hit when the game was tight to drive in the go-ahead run.

Phoenixville 4, Avon Grove 3: Bryan Furr and Mike Anthony combined on the pitching victory for the Athletics on the morning of June 29 for the ballclub’s first win at the new PASD Field.

Furr hurled six strong innings for the win while Anthony pitched the seventh for the save. Joe Little and Chris Demey had key hits to drive in runs.
