Favorites look strong in VFCC basketball

CHARLESTOWN - After two weeks of play in the 2013 season of the Valley Forge Christian Copllege Men’s Basektball Summer League, sponsored by Embassy Suites Philadelphia-Valley Forge and Miller Flooring Company, Bella Napoli Pizzeria has established itself as one of the favorites to again win the league, currently sitting atop the leader board at 3-0. Chris Meszaros of Countryside Realty has notched two wins on the season along with Metro Med Inc., and Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust. Dave Hoffman’s Auto Repair, Mishock Physical Therapy and Bistro on Bridge all sit at 2-2 while Crown Trophy and Integrated Promotions are both searching for a win.
League games are played every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights with the first game tipping off at 7 p.m. at The Pit.
June 18
Metro Med Inc. 74, Crown Trophy 45: Rodney Duncan scored a game-high 22 points to lead Metro Med, followed by Tony Calamaro (18) and Lou Dominique (14). Mahamane Toure and Patrick McGee each tallied 11 points for Crown Trophy.
Mishock PT 77, Bistro on Bridge 68: VFCC graduate Michael Stunm finished with a game-high 22 points for Mishock, followed by current VFCC player Kevin Mack with 20 and another grad, Latrell Alford, who finished with 18. Will Furey (17) and Justyn Mitchell (16) topped Bistro on Bridge.
Dave hoffman’s Auto Repair 76, Integrated Promotions 68: Jon Crabtree finished with a season-high 21 points to lead Dave Hoffman’s to victory. Matt King provided support with 19 points in his season opener while Dominic Farello (12) and Dan Delcont (10) rounded out the scoring. Greg Peters (22) and Zach Wise (12) were high men for Integrated Promotions.
June 19
Dave Hoffman’s Auto REpair 66, Chris Meszaros of Counstryside Realty 59: Dan Delcont keyed Dave hoffman’s with 16 points, inclduing 12-for-15 free throw shooting. Jon Crabtree and Matt King each finished with 14. Captain Andrew Meszaros, Nick Quigley and Ross Reber tabbed 15 points each for Countryside Realty.
Bella Napoli Pizzeria 63, Metro med 51: Tai Crutchfield continued his hot shooting streak for Bella Napoli’s by scoring a game-high 23 points. Crutchfield is the league’s leading scorer through the third week. For Metro Med, Lou Dominique led the way with 16 points.
June 20
Bistro on Bridge 73, Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust 65: Will Furey paced Birsto with a season-high 21 points. Jimmy Conolley (18) and Justyn Mitchell (17) also had good scoring nights. Jeff DeSantis made his season debut for the Bankers and led his team with 17 points.
Chris Meszaros of Countryside Realty 57, Mishock Physical Therapy 56: Nick Quigley scored 19 points to guide Countryside Realty while Latrell Alford led Mishock PT with a season-high 28 markers.
June 25
Metro Med 49, Chris Meszaros of Countryside Realty 42: Jose Ortiz scored a team-high eight points for Metro Med in his sseason debut. Andrew Meszaros led all scoreers for Countryside with 14 points.
Mishock Physical Therapy 86, Integrated Promotions 64: Mishock PT was led by a duo of VFCC alumni, Michael Stum (27) and Latrell Alford (22). Ryan Rogala scored a season-high 30 points for Integrated Promotions. Captain David Watson added 17 counters.
Crown Trophy 93, Dave Hoffman’s Auto Repair 57: Crown Trophy was led by Rasheed Wilkins (20) and Patrick McGee (17). For Dave Hoffman’s Auto, Dan Delcont scored agame-high 23 points, and Jon Crabtree followed up with 17.
June 26
Bella Napoli Pizzeria 68, Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust 48: Jon Hogga scored a team-high 19 points for Bella Napoli and Tai Crutchfield, the league’s leading scorer, added 16. Ryan McKee paced the Bankeras with 21.
Integrated Promotions 60, Crown Trophy 55: Greg Peters was instrumental in Integrated Promotions’ first win of the season as he scored a season-high 26 points. Perley Mack (15) and Demetrius Muse (11) led Crown Trophy.
Metro Med 71, Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust 61: Tyreek Peeples led Metro Med by scoring a team-high 15 points. Mike Sturdyivant (12), Rodney Duncan (11) and Barry Brockington (11) aided the cause. Mike Handley led all scorers with a game-high 18 points while teammate Brian Miller added 14.
Bella Napoli Pizzeria 71, Bistro on Bridge 70: This game was a rematch of last season’s championship game. Bridge’s captain, Eric Burnett, sank a big 3-point field goal to tie the game with just under one minute left to play. Bella Napoli drove the length of the court and took the lead on a Jon Hogga layup. Bella Napoli escaped with the win to remain undefeated at 5-0.
Hogga led the way with 16 points, followed by Tai Crutchfield (15) and captain Chris Talley (14). Bistro got a game-high 20 points from Jimmy Connolly while captain Eric Burnell (19) and VFCC grad Justyn Mitchell (11) provided support.
