Red Sox nip Athletics at new field

Downingtown 7, Phoenixville 5 : The Athletics dropped their third straight Chester County League game after falling to the Diamond Dogs in a six-inning game halted by lightning and rain Wednesday night.

Dave Palmen pitched the first 3 1/3 innings for Phoenixville (3-4) and suffered the loss while yielding five hits and two earned runs of the seven with two costly As errors. Palmen walked four and fanned two before giving way to Bryan Furr for the last 2 2/3 frames.

Chris Demey finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Robbie Purcell went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run and two stolen bases. Cameron Cook doubled and scored a run.

Joey Little scored two runs with one hit, a walk and a hit by pitch. Jordan Valenteen had one hit, one run and one RBI. He was also robbed of a hit on a diving catch in left field with one on and nobody out in the last of the sixth inning.

Dalton Reed and Doug Conrad combined on the mound victory for the Diamond Dogs. Conrad gave up one hit with four strikeouts during his 2 2/3 innings of relief work.

Conrad also had two hits, one a triple, and one run scored. Pat Krall also tripled for the visitors while Brett Hash and Reed pouned out doubles.
