Phoenixville hosts Underclass Challenge

PHOENIXVILLE - An addition to this year’s Pioneer Athletic Conference Senior Bowl football game this year was the PAC-10 Underclass Challenge.
The event was held June 1 at Phoenixville Area High School and was run by The Athlete Factory in Kimberton.
The day included competition for all PAC-10 juniors, sophomores and freshman football players. Players competed in the 40-yard dash, the Pro Agility Shuttle and Standing Long Jump. There was also a skills challenge for linemen, skill players and quarterbacks.
The top three place-winners in the 40-yard dash by position were as follows:
In the Lineman Division-first place Anthony Pond, Pottsgrove; second place Robby Varner, Spring-Ford; and third place, Zach Dorsey, Spring-Ford.
In the Skill Player Division-Tyrell Barr, Pottsgrove; Marquis Barefield, Pottsgrove; and Melvin Obando, Phoenixville.
In the Quarterback Division-Tate Carter, Spring-Ford, with a 4.46; Wyatt Brumm, Upper Perkiomen; and Donnie Jackson, Phoenixville.
In the Pro Agility 20-yard Shuttle:
Lineman Division: Max Wickward, Pottsgrove; Brett Fretz, Upper Perkiomen; Anthony Pond, Pottsgrove.
Skill Player Division: Marquis Barefield, Pottsgrove; Mike Ciaverelli, Phoenixville; Matt Raniszewski, Phoenixville.
Quarterback Division: Tate Carter, Spring-Ford, 4.44; Torin Verdone, Pottsgrove; Donnie Jackson, Phoenixville.
In the Standing Long Jump:
Lineman Division: (tie) Anthony Pond, Pottsgrove; and Robby Varner, Spring-Ford; David Weller, Upper Perkiomen.
Skill Player Division: Marquis Barefield, Pottsgrove, 9 feet, 3 inches; Jake Leahy, Spring-Ford; Melvin Obando, Phoenixville.
Quarterback Division: Tate Carter, Spring-Ford; Brandon Leacraft, Spring-Ford; Donnie Jackson, Phoenixville.
In the Position Challenge:
Lineman Division: Robby Varner, Spring-Ford; David Weller, Upper Perkiomen; Tom Sephakis, Pottsgrove.
