Banquet honors Spring-Ford state champs

ROYERSFORD - Spring-Ford High Schoolís PIAA Class AAAA state championship girls basketball team was honored during a special community banquet Thursday, April 25, in the senior high school gymnasium.
The Rams finished 32-2 overall under head coach Jeff Rinehimer and assistant coaches Mickey McDaniel, Jeff Mast, Geoff Kahler and Stacey Huntington.
They also captured their second-straight Pioneer Athletic Conference and District 1 titles along the road to the state title game in Hershey, where they beat Cumberland Valley, 60-45, in the state final game at the Giant Center on March 22, 2013.
Spring-Ford Superintendent Dr. David R. Goodin gave the welcome, introduced guests and the invocation. High School Principal Patrick J. Nugent assisted with the introductions and presentation of awards to the team and coaches.
The Rams were previously named to the 7th Annual MaxPreps Basketball Tour of Champions as presented by the Army National Guard. They were ranked No. 22 in the country by USA Today.
Presentations included a certificate of recognition from Greg Francis from the office of Rep. James Gerlach. There were also citations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Pennsylvania State Senate and resolutions from Limerick Township and Royersford Borough.
The Spring-Ford Board of School Directors also made a resolution, and president Thomas DiBello and vice president James Ciresi gave copies to the team members.
Nugent, who is also president of the PAC-10 circuit, presented the PAC-10 championship plaque.
Gary Kochersperger, basketball chairman, gave the PIAA District 1 championship trophy. Mark Byers, PIAA chief operating officer, issued the PIAA state championship trophy.
Rinehimer, who completed his 19th season at the helm, and McDaniel, who is also Spring-Fordís longtime athletic director, offered remarks.
A video with highlights of the 2012-13 campaign and sound bites was shown throughout the evening. It was prepared by McDaniel and Steve Bonetz.
