SCHWENKSVILLE — A magician, musical performances, petting zoo and crafts are just some of the many activities that attendees can enjoy at this year’s Schwenksville Community Day.
The Borough of Schwenksville will once again be hosting the 5th annual Schwenksville Community Day, Saturday, May 4. The event is held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) at Meadow Park, 300 Main Street, Schwenksville, PA 19473,(behind the firehouse).
The Community Day event is organized by the Schwenksville Borough Activities Committee and sponsored by Ambler Savings Bank and Greenfield of Perkiomen Valley, along with many other local businesses. Many local vendors and performers will be featured. Back to entertain us this year is The Hilarious magic of Sam Sandler. Great food will be available at the many concession stands.

The Patriotic Order Sons of America Camp 387 will kick-off the Community Day Opening Ceremony with Raising the U.S. Flag, followed by The Pledge of Allegiance. The POS of A is a non-profit organization that also conducts the Flag Retirement Ceremony held in the Meadow in June.
The What Knott Farm petting zoo will be in the field all day for the young and the young at heart to enjoy. The petting zoo includes, but may vary with weather and availability of young animals: at least two miniature sheep, two miniature goats, giant rabbit, bunnies, tortoise, hedgehog, rooster, giant cockroaches, lizard, chinchilla, skunk, chicks, ducks, potbelly pig and turkey.
From 10:30 to 11 a.m., Judy Tudy will be presenting her show at the pavilion. This will be followed by an hour of balloon sculpting at the pavilion. Judy Tudy is a Mommy Clown who has been performing for over 20 years. She has developed programs specifically designed for all ages.
The Community Music School Adult Jazz Ensemble will perform on stage from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Community Music School is celebrating 20 years of music in the Trappe community this year. Community Music School is a non-profit organization where music education is at the core of their programming. Through private music lessons, classes, ensembles, a community concert series and art gallery, their mission is to contribute to the cultural life of the communities that they serve with programming for all ages.
All are welcome to join the Perky Promenaders square dancing session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion. Square dancing is friendship set to music! Square dancing has many benefits...music, fun, exercise, getting to know friendly people, and more!
Anyone who is interested in the history of Schwenksville won’t want to miss The Main Street Tour that meets at the firehouse sign and runs from 12:00 to 12:45( North) and from 2 to 2:45 p.m.(South). Join us for a walk, talk and a short history lesson on the town of Schwenksville.
Jerusalem Lutheran Church will present their Puppet Show at the Pavilion from 12:45 to 1:15. This show has become an annual tradition for kids of all ages. While you are down that way you can enjoy some lunch from one of our many concession stands.
On stage from 1 to 3 p.m. will be Schwenksville’s own Ted the Fiddler. Ted played for years in the Philly scene. He has played with nearly everybody, including a short stint with the Grand Ole Opry and Opryland Talent. He also toured Japan and did movie reviews for Ch 35 in Philly. He now plays his own version of Bluegrass Rock, Folk Rock and Celtic Rock with his unique style and wit.
At the Pavilion from 1:30 to 2:15 you can enjoy The Hilarious magic of Sam Sandler, America’s only full-time deaf illusionist presents his fast-paced high energy family fun show filled with comedy, award winning magic, inspirational message and tons of audience interaction and participation. He has nearly 10,000 live performances across the country including Top Casinos, TV, and the Comedy Stop Times Square NY. The Hilarious magic of Sam Sandler was named 2012 “Close-up Magician of the Year” by the Philadelphia region’s Society of American Magicians. Sandler is currently gearing up for his National tour starting September 2013, where he will be presenting his “DEAFinitely Magic” School Assembly in more than 300 schools in 42 states. And best yet – he lives right here in the town! Don’t miss this show!
The Lederach Dance Company and J. Dance Company are performing at the Pavilion from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The Lederach Dance Company is a group of dedicated, dynamic & versatile young dancers who enjoy & love to dance. The company gives dancers the opportunity to perform in “Company Only” performances throughout the year.
Proceeds from Schwenksville Community Day are used to fund the Summer Concert Series that takes place in the Meadow, June to September. Mark your calendars now for these special events.
Midnight Shift is scheduled to perform on Wednesday June 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meadow. They are a rockabilly and blues band new to Schwenksville’s Summer Concert Series.
The Christopher Dean Band is scheduled to perform on Wednesday, July 17, from. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. They are a regional blues/soul band based out of the Central New Jersey area, working up and down the east coast year round.
The next scheduled band to perform is Schwenksville’s own Dog Bite Money on Aug. 21. From 6 to 8 p.m. Dog Bite Money is always a local favorite and has quite a large following in the Schwenksville area. Their reputation as a crown pleasing band stretches well beyond the local area. Dog Bite Money is a classic rock cover band with a song list that goes from Aerosmith to ZZ Top, and everything in between. 2009 was the 10 year anniversary of DOG BITE MONEY. This was also the year Dog Bite Money was named WMGK102.9FM “Band of the Year.” They finished that year playing to a crowd of more than 50,000 fans in New Jersey with Paul Rodgers of Bad Company.
