Phoenixville teacher is Citadels' Heart of Learning Award finalist

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

PHOENIXVILLE —Denise Krisiewicz is the 2013 Phoenixville Area School District Citadels’ Heart of Learning Award finalist. A third grade teacher at East Pikeland Elementary, Krisiewicz is a 16-year veteran in PASD, and highly respected within the district.
A love of science has motivated her to lead the after-school Science Explorer’s Club at East Pikeland for several years, as well as being directly involved at the district level in science curriculum and professional development.
In presenting the award, Kyonia Hamilton from the Phoenixville branch of the Citadel Federal Credit Union read some excerpts from the nomination letters for Krisiewicz:
“No problem is too challenging for this teacher. Each challenge that is encountered is handled with a detailed plan of action.”
A parent writes: “I love the fact that my son wakes up every day and enjoys going to school, not only to see his friends, but because he loves reading, math and science. He loves to learn because of his teacher.”
The Citadel’s Heart of Learning Award was developed by Citadel and the Chester County Intermediate Unit 12 years ago to recognize and reward, but mostly thank, the outstanding teachers we have here in Chester County. The program has grown in such popularity in our community that we receive thousands of heartfelt nominations for many well deserving teachers from all across Chester County.
A selection committee made up of prominent community members, narrows the field down to 15 finalists from each of the school districts. These 15 finalists then go to the next round and three overall winners will be chosen in May at the Citadel Heart of Learning Award banquet.
In accepting the award, an emotional Krisiewicz praised her class, and said “they were the reason she did this (taught), and why she loves coming to work every day.”
The school district congratulates Mrs. Krisiewicz on the recognition.
