Phoenixville Community Ed. Foundation hosts dinner, auction

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

The Phoenixville Community Education Foundation will host its 10th annual dinner and auction on Friday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Rivercrest Golf Club and Preserve. All in the community are encouraged to purchase tickets to this special gathering of teachers, administrators, parents and other supporters of education in the Phoenixville area.
This year the dinner will have an extra sparkle as PCEF celebrates its 10th anniversary of supporting education in the Phoenixville area. Guests at the event will enjoy a buffet dinner in the spacious ballroom at Rivercrest. Both silent and live auctions will be held, with a wide variety of items, including jewelry, sports tickets, restaurant gift certificates, sports memorabilia, and much more available to the highest bidder.
Some highlights of the auction include a beautiful handcrafted farmhouse table, a rowing lesson on the Boathouse Row, a teeth whitening package, and a vacation at a beautiful Canada lake house.
Last year’s dinner was sold out and raised the largest amount of funds yet for the children of the Phoenixville Area School District. The dinner also features a unique opportunity called The Giving Tree.
PCEF asks each school principal to create a 5-item “wish list,” of things the school could use but which are not in the budget. These things, which range in value from $25 - $1000 are put on the Giving Tree and dinner attendees can choose to fund them. Some supporters prefer to donate directly to a specific cause rather than purchase an item at the auction, and this allows them to see exactly where their PCEF donation is going.
Past Giving Tree items include library book donations, playground equipment, science lab supplies, and tennis racquets for the PE department for example.
PCEF is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that supports educational opportunities in the Phoenixville area and advocates for a first-rate education for our children. The organization raises monies to support programs and projects not funded by the school district.
Among the many programs funded by PCEF are:
Mini-grants for teachers at all levels
Summer Academics, which provides support for at risk children transitioning from kindergarten to first grade
Activities Access Fund, which provides assistance to students who cannot afford the district’s new Pay to Participate fee.
Scholarships for preschool students and graduating seniors
PCEF’s goal is to reach every student from pre-school to 12th grade.
