ROYERSFORD — Just short of 64 years as a fixture of the borough’s downtown business district, Lebow Furniture Co. will liquidate its stock and close for good as soon as next week.
“The past couple of years, the economy has really put it on us,” said Susan Lebow, the store’s vice president. “Expenses have continued to increase. As a family, we just had to sit down and decide we couldn’t continue on the way things have been going.”
The store, which was in the Lebow family since 1949, was closed this week and a letter was posted on the official website.
“Our family would like to say ‘Thank you’ to all our loyal customers,” the letter said. “We are sad to do this but we have enjoyed the past 63 years and we will truly cherish the memories.”
A liquidation sale is scheduled for this weekend.
“We’re pretty much starting sales over the weekend from here on out,” Lebow said. “We’re getting rid of everything, reducing prices, getting rid of everything here down to the desk and the fixtures.”
Lebow Furniture will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“We have a lot of new product and great product that we have to move,” Lebow said.
She said there may be extended hours or accommodations if all of the merchandise isn’t sold by Sunday, but they’ll re-evaluate when necessary.
“Obviously, we’ve never done this before,” she said. “As time goes on we’ll make decisions.”
