ROYERSFORD — A pair of Evans Elementary School teachers earned a national designation after completing a series of projects over several months.

Susan Mercer, a second-grade teacher, and Arlene Reagan, a third-grade teacher, recently achieved National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification, according to a release from the Spring-Ford Area School District.

Among the projects, the release said, were four portfolio pieces and six response exercises “that were designed to test (their) instructional abilities and aptitude.”

Mercer and Reagan join 1,043 other educators in the state who have achieved such certification.

“These teachers showed determination and a genuine love for their profession,” Superintendent David Goodin said. “It is a truly impressive accomplishment that Ms. Mercer and Ms. Reagan achieved.”

In 25 years, the board has certified more than 100,000 teachers, according to the organization’s official website.

The board’s goal in “its second quarter century” is to promote “educator effectiveness across the career span” and aid “accomplished teachers (in) lead(ing) the way in building a vibrant and respected profession.”
