College Corner: Winston plays hoops for Penn State-Abington

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Janay Winston (Phoenixville) is playing basketball at Penn State University-Abington Campus.

Winston, a junior, scored 16 points in the team’s home opener against Rosemont College. Abington still came up short in losing by a 79-58 score.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Bloomsburg University sophomore Aaron Cancro (Limerick, Spring-Ford) posted the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.39 to move onto the championship round at the 2012 Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron University.

Cancro finished seventh in the finals in a time of 1:57.92.

Bloomsburg sophomore Cole Underwood (Collegeville, Perkiomen Valley) posted the sixth-fastest time in the 1650 free. He finished 11th overall in 16:46.28, a PSAC cut.

Bloomsburg freshman Tyler Gross (Pottstown, Pottsgrove) missed the school record by just .02 second in the 200 breast. Gross’ time of 2:08.81 qualified him sixth for the championship final. In the finals, gross finished fifth overall in 2:07.56 and sits second in school history behind Jake Harner’s mark.

Bloomsburg freshman Collin Junk (Upper Perkiomen) advanced to the ‘B’ final in the 200 breast with a season-best mark of 2:18.23. Junk posted a similar mark in the final, finishing eighth in 2:18.72.
