Phantoms’ Maddi Fritsche named first team in girls soccer

Phoenixville senior defensive back Maddi Fritsche was voted to the first team for All-Pioneer Athletic Conference girls soccer for the 2012 season.

Fritsche played center back and was one of the leaders for coach Jason Short’s squad that had its best season under current head coach Jason Short. The Phantoms advanced to the PAC-10 Final Four as well as the District 1-AA playoffs.

Phantom senior teammates Bailey Stover, a midfielder, made the second team while senior goalkeeper Sara Gilbert and sophomore midfielder Gia Tedesco were picked for honorable mention.

Spring-Ford forward Simone Stewart and midfielder Sammy Stipa were voted to the first team while Rams Laura Suero and Carrie Kupferschmidt earned spots on the second team. Spring-Ford placed Aley Kate McKinley and Kaitlyn Dougherty on the honorable mention list.

Pope John Paul II’s Lilly Walls made the second team, and Golden Panther Savannah Widdicombe was named honorable mention.

Roberts, forward; Emily Diehl, Boyertown, forward; Sarafina Valenti, Boyertown, goalie; Jaid Mark, Pottsgrove, forward; Kayla Smith, Upper Perkiomen, forward; Gabby McKee, Owen J. Roberts, defense; Jenny Martin, Methacton, defense; Katie Thomas, Perkiomen VAlley, defense; Danielle Lentz, Boyertown, midfield; and Lauren Mengel, Boyertown, defense.

Also chosen for the second team were Maria Garofolo, Boyertown; Emilie Kupsov, Owen J. Roberts; Lexi Kehl, Pottsgrove; Marie Valenti, Boyertown; Maddy Cantello, Owen J. Roberts; Brooke Knisely, Upper Perkiomen; Steph Tamburro, Owen J. Roberts; Elexa Sherman, Methacton; Tricia Law, Perkiomen Valley; and Megan Diehl, Boyertown.

Also selected honorable mention were the following: Boyertown: Robyn Piveteau; Methacton: Hannah Walsh, kyra Dubost; Owen J. Roberts: Emily Keck, Liz Bealer; Perkiomen Valley: Kelly O’Brien, Rachel Yenney; Pottsgrove: None; Pottstown: Autumn Day; and Upper Perkiomen: Aubrey Gibbs.
