> PROSPECT PARK - Phoenixville’s dreams of a return trip to the District 1-AAA football playoff finals ended quickly Friday in the first round of postseason action.
> The Phantoms met a tough foe in host Interboro, which stormed out to a 35-0 lead in the third quarter en route to a 35-14 victory for the third-seeded Bucs against the sixth-seeded Phantoms.
> “We knew they were a big team,” said Phoenixville senior linebacker Brian Madden. “We kind of underestimated their speed. They are a good team. They work hard, play hard.”
> Phoenixville scored on two touchdown runs by Sean Hesser of seven and 13 yards in the second half.
> Hesser finished with 56 yards rushing on five carries. He also caught two Chris Demey passes for 28 yards. Ryan Yenchick rushed for 53 yards on 11 attempts and also caught three passes for 37 more yards.
> Demey completed 7 of 14 passes for 82 yards, but he was intercepted twice by Chris Simmons and Alex McCloskey. He was also sacked four times.
> The Phantoms recovered three fumbles but they were unable to capitalize on the turnovers as much as coach Bill Furlong would have liked.
> Phoe nixville was outgained in total yardage, 396-208.
> “It is tough losing in the first round after we made it to the district finals last year,” said Madden, who shared a sack with Brian Hyland. “But I am proud my team. It was a great team effort. But we can’t play well the second half and play flat the first half. We still have one more game.”
> The Phantoms will complete their 2012 season with a Thanksgiving Day morning contest on the road versus Spring-Ford.
> “Give them props,” said Madden. “They outplayed us in every phase of the game.”
> Furlong praised the Bucs.
> “They are a good team.” said Furlong. “They are really physical. We had a couple breaks early, but we didn’t capitalize.”
> Furlong liked the way the Phantoms improved their play in the second half, but he said they have to find a way to start faster.
> “The guys have a lot to be proud of and we still have another game,” said Furlong. “We still have another game. Wehave to come back and finish strong.”
