Comic strip comes to life in ‘Li’l Abner’ at Forge Theatre in Phoenixville

PHOENIXVILLE —Al Capp’s classic comic strip characters step off the funny pages onto the Forge Theatre stage in “Li’l Abner” from Nov. 9 through Dec. 1. The show features the musical theatre toe-tappers, “Jubilation T. Cornpone,”“If I Had My Druthers,”“Progress is the Root of All Evil,”“The Matrimonial Stomp” and more. A Tony Award winner, the show features a spirited cast and large production dance numbers.

Production dates are Nov. 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 29, 30 and Dec. 1. Evening performances are at 8p.m., Sunday matinees at 2p.m.

Lil’ Abner is directed by Stevie Taygie and choreographed by Gail Oldfield. Denise Wisneski is musical director. Greg Morton is producer, and Linda Blytone is stage manager.

The cast inclues Nick Eustis as Lonesome Polecat, Bob Goretski as Hairless Joe, John Primus as Romeo Scragg, Richard Chambers as Clem Scragg, Paul Bigas as Alf Scragg, Christa Wisneski as Moonbeam McSwine, Jim Kelsh as Marryin’ Sam, Scott Coonradt as Earthquake McGoon, Danielle Greenberg as Daisy Mae, Jack Roberts as Pappy Yokum, Barb Hannevig as Mammy Yokum, Carey Rumpf as Li’l Abner, Brian Schwartz as Mayor Dawgmeat, Jacob Collings as Scott, Eric Thopson as Dr. Rasmussen T. Finsdale, Anthony Marsala as Sen. Jack S. Phogbound, Abbie Cichowski as Stupeyin’ Jones, Will Nassau as Available Jones, Melanie Magolan as Appassionata Von Climax, Bill Swezey as Evil Eye Fleagle, Brian Schwartz as Dr. Smithborn, Abbie Morgan as Dr. Krogmeyer, Shelly Collings as Dr. Schleifitz, Rosie Alleva as Cecil Softwicke, Patricia Rhoads, MaryAnn Piccione, Jan Swarr, Joey Curren, Abbie Morgan and Beth Eustis as Dogpatch Wives, Stu Greenberg, Andrew Mimm, Curtis Barfield, Don Reichart, David Lopez, Lew Osterhouddt, Murray Kramer, Victor Utz and Joe Beregi as Dogpatch Husbands.
