PHOENIXVILLE — Kyle Guie’s time on borough council officially came to an end at Tuesday’s night’s public meeting, approximately six months after he took a seat at the table in borough hall.
Guie decided to resign his seat in the borough’s Middle Ward because a new job in Lancaster has made his commute from Phoenixville every day too much to handle.
“The commute was becoming unbearable,” Guie said in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon. “I have decided to make the tough decision to resign and move to Lancaster City.”
Guie got a job with a Lancaster County non-profit that preserves farmland around the same time that he began serving on council.
Because Guie will become a resident of a different municipality, he will no longer be eligible to be on Phoenixville’s council.
Council voted unanimously to accept Guie’s resignation, which became effective Wednesday so he could take part in one last council meeting.
“Can we accept (this) with regret?” Richard Kirkner, the council’s president, asked to smiles.
In Tuesday’s e-mail, Guie expressed his enjoyment of his half-year on council.
“My experience on council has been great,” he said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with council, borough staff and residents in my short tenure. The current council members are outstanding and Phoenixville is in great hands.”
Specifically, Guie thanked E. Jean Krack, the borough’s manager, for his “tireless effort and passion for Phoenixville.”
Although Guie doesn’t envision himself running for anything in Lancaster City, he said he will stay involved and stressed the importance of citizens to do so.
“It’s valuable to know how the political machine works,” Guie said after the meeting. “I’ll definitely apply what I have learned here to my future in Lancaster.”
“Our loss is Lancaster’s gain,” Kirkner said.
At the July 10 meeting, at 6 p.m., council will interview possible candidates for the vacancy in the Middle Ward. Those interested may send their resumes to Kirkner and Krack.
Council will also look for a new chair for their infrastructure committee, a position that will be left vacant by Guie’s departure.
