Furlong suspended for two games

PHOENIXVILLE — Phoenixville football coach Bill Furlong has been suspended for at least two games, according to a statement released by the school Tuesday.

The statement said that Furlong “has been suspended for a minimum of two games for violations of policies and procedures,” and that “as this is an internal personnel matter, no further details will be released.”

During his 11 years at the Phoenixville helm, Furlong has compiled a 67-57 mark. The Phantoms are 1-2 this season, having defeated Owen J. Roberts, 19-15, in Week 3. They face Pottstown Friday night.

According to Phoenixville Athletic Director Tony Palladino, Chris Alston — Phoenixville’s middle school assistant principal — will serve as the Phantoms interim coach for the next two games.

The statement also said the action does not affect any of the current assistant coaches, who will continue in their roles.
