Feel The Warmth, a West Norriton-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides winter clothing, books, school supplies and toys to the less fortunate children in the area, is hosting its first annual 5K Race and One Mile Fun Walk at Reeves Park in Phoenixville on October 19.
“This is our first 5K of any kind,” said Feel The Warmth founder Matt Frangiosa of the Saturday event. “(We chose Phoenixville) because we wanted to spread our name in the area. It is an up and coming community with a friendly atmosphere… …a place where people care about and get involved in good causes. We have done some work with businesses in Phoenixville before and we want to immerse ourselves in the area.”
All ages are welcome to participate in the racing events. Registration will take place at the corner of Main St. and 3rd Ave. from 8 – 9 a.m. The 5K Start Time is 9 a.m. and one mile Fun Walk begins at 9:10 a.m. Participants will receive fruit and water upon completion of their event, and race T-Shirts are available for those who are registered by 10/4 (go online to www.signup2raceusa.com/ccrs/feelthewarmth/ for online registration).
The course will start and finish at Reeve’s Park, with the route being a circuit of roads around Reeves Park that will be closed off to traffic. The racing timing and other logistics are being handled by the Chester County Running Store of West Chester.
The registration fee for the 5K Run is $25 before October 4 or $30 after (including the day of the race). The divisions for the 5K are 17 & under, 18-29, 30-44 and 45 and over. Cash prizes will be awarded to each 5K division winner, and the results will be posted on www.feelthewarmth.org\results. The cost to register for the 1 Mile Fun Walk is $25 and $10 for children 12 and under.
Feel The Warmth will have an information table set up the day of the event where people can find out more about the organization.
“People who are participating should know that the proceeds from this event will be supporting local children within Chester and Montgomery counties,” said Frangiosa. “We want to establish this as a major fundraiser for the organization which will occur at the same time and same place annually.”
Frangiosa said that the race was arranged though the borough thanks to Michael B. Murray, Jr., who is the General Counsel and Vice Chairman for the Board of Directors for Feel The Warmth, a member of the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a lawyer with event sponsor O’Donnell, Weiss & Mattei of Phoenixville.
