Royersford cop injured bringing woman back to group home

ROYERSFORD — The search for two missing women ended up with a borough police officer suffering minor injuries Monday when one woman resisted being taken back to the group home she lives in.

According to the Royersford Police, Meridian Group Home on the 100 block of North Fourth Avenue reported two missing women around 3:50 p.m.

Police located December Showell, an 18-year-old, “still in the care/custody of Meridian,” police said.

When an officer told her she needed to return to the group home with him, Showell allegedly both verbally and physically resisted and caused “minor injuries to the officer.”

Eventually, she was taken into custody and sent to the Pottstown Police Department’s lock-up.

She was arraigned and released on $1,000 unsecured bail before District Judge Walter Gadzicki on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.

Her hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14 before Gadzicki.

The other runaway was not found, according to police, but runaways from Meridian are not uncommon, they said, and that female will likely be discharged from the program.
