PHOENIXVILLE - More than 75 former players, friends and school administrators surprised former Phoenixville High School boys basketball head coach Bill Detweiler during a tribute on Friday night, March 29, at the Polish Club.
Detweiler was honored for his dedication to the students of PAHS while developing an outstanding basketball program. Detweiler taught dedication, commitment and respect and involved so many student-athletes in basketball that a ninth grade team was added during his tenure.
Detweiler added summer leagues and travel teams that gave Phoenixville kids a chance to learn and play basketball for 12 months per year. Many former players who attended the Tribute Night acknowledged that Detweiler helped them attain success in academics and sports while in college.
During a seven-year period that began in 202, Detweiler compiled a 123-65 record, winning two Pioneer Athletic Conference championships in 2005 and 2007. In 2009, the Phantoms won the PIAA District 1 Class AAA title. The 2007 team finished undefeated in the PAC-10 and compiled an overall 26-4 record for the best boys basketball mark in school history.
