Phoenixville students on stage in Devon Prep's ‘Scarlet Pimpernel'

DEVON — Area youth will take the stage when Devon Preparatory School presents Frank Wildhorn’s swashbuckling musical “The Scarlet Pimpernel” at 7 p.m. on March 14, 15 and 16, at the Devon Prep Auditorium, 363 N. Valley Forge Road, Devon.

English palaces and Revolution-torn Paris frame this heroic tale of disguised British noblemen who form the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel to rescue French aristocrats from the guillotine. At the league’s head is Sir Percival Blakeney (Brian Kozak of Phoenixville in the title role), joined by heroic Englishmen such as Ozzie (Patrick Shield of East Norriton) and his French wife’s brother Armand (Mike LaBella of Collegeville). The cast includes Pottstown resident Jacob Riedel, three siblings from Spring City, Jean-Paul Gies (as the doomed Marquis de St. Cyr), Tommy Gies and Mary Rita Gies, a student of Regina Luminis Academy, Phoenixville residents Matthew Fasullo, Matt Kozak and Madeleine Finkenaur, as well as Rachel Smith of Audubon, the latter girls both students at the Academy of Notre Dame. All male roles are played by Devon Prep students.Female roles are played by girls from 11 other area schools.

The production’s music is directed by Dr. Valentin Radu of Radnor, Devon Prep’s director of music. Paul Recupero of Wayne, Pa. is the stage director. The musical’s dance moments are provided by Gail Oldfield of Kimberton, the production’s choreographer.
