Hurricane Sandy knocks down trees in Phoenixville, causes power outages

PHOENIXVILLE – Hurricane Sandy hit the area taking down trees and causing power outages for residents.

There is a tree down on Lincoln Avenue near Griffin Street in Phoenixville.

In Phoenixville Borough, a tree fell on a car in a driveway on Anderson Street near Lincoln Street and a tree came down on Lincoln Street near Griffin Street. A tree also came down in the alley between Prospect and Bridge streets. A tree fell down on wires on Starr Street.

An alley is closed between Prospect and Bridge streets due to downed trees and wires.

Hurricane Sandy also wreaked havoc on power. On Tuesday, PECO spokesperson Liz Williamson said 74,000 customers in Chester County were still without power. Across PECO’s coverage area which includes Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware and Philadelphia counties, 585,000 customers were without power.

PECO restored service to 230,000 customers in its coverage area since yesterday, Williamson said.

“Sandy was a groundbreaking storm for us in terms of storm damage and outages,” she said. “We have more than 2,000 field personnel who are working to repair storm damage and service as quickly and safely as possible.”

According to PECO’s outage map, Hurricane Sandy brought 501 to 1,500 outages for customers in Phoenixville.
